I thought I'd write one of ours out to contribute.

02:00 - There's crying coming from the other room, which means that Iris is awake and suffering the combined indignities of a wet diaper and a lack of nipple in her mouth. I get up, fix the diaper problem, and start to head back to the bedroom. I realize that the bread dough Ben started last night has probably risen by now, and go check on it. Sure enough, it's climbed out of the pan. I punch it down a couple times, one-handed, and then go lay down in bed to nurse Iris. She nurses quickly, I unlatch her and roll over, and we're both asleep soon afterwards.

05:00 - Squirming, whimpering, more nursing.

06:30 - Potty and diaper change, more nursing, and up for the day. I get dressed, mostly in yesterday's clothes; only the undies and breast pads really to go in the laundry. Iris is already dressed, since she fell asleep in her clothing last night.

I go out in the kitchen and start the morning chores. I put the bread in to bake, and scrub a half dozen potatoes to bake at the same time. The kitchen starts warming up. I empty the diaper pail into the front-loading machine and start the laundry. I clean out the litterboxes and start hot water for (fair trade, organic) coffee. Iris manages to overturn the cats' water bowl. I mop up with dish towels, and then get Iris into clean, dry clothes. Definitely time for that first cup of coffee. I also get myself a bowl of homemade granola with homemade soymilk, and eat it, sharing with Iris.

07:30 - Ben wakes up. He takes over watching Iris, and I get him some granola and coffee.

8:00 - From now until it's time for Ben to start worl, I have a bit of time to either nap (if I'm reallt desperate for sleep) or work on my own projects. Today I decide to clean the fishtank, water our new orange tree with nutrient-rich water from the aquarium, and clean off my desk. I also turn the oven off and take the bread out of the oven to cool, but leave the potatoes in to finish baking in the residual heat.

8:30 - Shower. Short, but hot.

9:00 - I wash the dishes. Meanwhile, Iris does some really good standing - half a minute at a time. I remind Ben to take her to the potty sometime soon. He shrieks in horror as he gets the diaper off, because it's full of poop. So that's why she was standing. :-/ Ben swishes the diaper, and I give the girl a bath, and get out a new diaper, cover, and clean clothes for her.

9:30 - Ben gets started on his work day, and Iris and I go to do the outside chores: hang out laundry, water the garden, and the turn contents of compost bin, planting two sprouted cloves of garlic I find inside. At this point, there are over a dozen garlic plants in the garden from compost. I fill two buckets with finished compost, and add more from kitchen scraps and yard waste to the bin. I also dump the pee container into the bin to add moisture and nitrogen. Garbage pickup was this morning. The garbage and recycling containers weren't full, so I didn't put them out, but I do need to retrieve our green waste bin. It was full of branches too big to compost in our pile.

10:30 - Iris has been a trooper, but she's looking tired and it's time for her nap. We go to the bathroom quickly, flush because we're expecting a client to come by, and then head into the bedroom to nurse down. She falls asleep on me, and I play around on the computer for a while, and start this post.

11:00 - Ben's client arrives, and Ben comes in to tell me this and ask several questions. Of course this wakes Iris up and makes me quite upset. I pack up the diaper bag and get Iris into the carrier. We head off to the park. Along the way I take pictures of the banana trees growing in front of one of the houses on our street. I also notice a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a handle lying in the gutter. It looks useful, and doesn't have any holes.

11:30 - Playground. Iris climbs, tries to eat acorns, and tries to go down the slide by herself. I watch Iris very closely as she climbs, deprive her of acorns, and take her down the slide in my lap.

12:00 - Time to head home. On the way, I notice that the bucket is still there and pick it up.

12:30 - Lunchtime: leftover veggie chili over baked potatoes. I have cheese on mine, Ben has vegan sour cream. He shares with Iris. I offer lunch to the client, but he declines. He's trying to lose weight, so baked potatoes and beans are forbidden. Besides, he already had a big plate of barbeque at the place down the street.

1:00 - Back to work for Ben and his client. I try nursing Iris, but she wants no part of that. She pulls stuff off shelves for awhile while I write a little more about our day and take a few turns at Scrabulous.

2:00 - It's time to head out again. We're out of whole wheat flour and cider vinegar (and I don't trust the homemade vinegar for food), so we go to the supermarket. Along the way, we stop at Goodwill. I've been looking for a whistling tea kettle to use instead of the electric one, but no luck - the only one there is broken. I do end up buying a set of freezer containers and a slipcover for the very ugly chair we have at the piano.

3:30 - Back home. Ben's client is gone. Unload groceries and girl. Fix tea and toast with homemade apple butter. After tea, Ben explains that he's going to be working late to get things finished for the client's demo tonight.

4:00 - I attempt to nurse Iris down for a nap. No such luck.

5:00 - Iris and I do outdoor chores again with the last of the daylight. I bring in the compost and pee containers and take the diapers down off the line. They're mostly dry, but the thicker ones we use at night are still a little damp. They go into the gas dryer to finish. I pick some mustard greens for dinner.

5:00 - Stories and playing with Iris, who is getting increasingly tired and fussy.

6:00 - Nursing and sleeping baby.

7:00 - Time to get started on dinner. I make "Traditional Mac and Cheez" out of a vegan cookbook that has odd spelling conventions. While it's baking, I put away dishes from the drying rack and wash another tubfull. Then I wash the mustard greens, chop them up, and start stir-frying. Ben finishes work and takes over cooking the greens while I fold the laundry.

8:00 - Ben and I eat dinner together. We have a bit of a discussion about all the last-minute deadline crunches in his line of work, and what is reasonable.

9:00 - We hear Iris crying from the bedroom. Ben changes her diaper, and then I nurse her. I pass out while nursing her. Ben goes to bed sometime later. The end.
